Alan Sorrell (1904-1974) is the undisputed master of the reconstructional drawing -
that is, a graphic representation of an architectural or social scene as
it must have been. Sorrell specialised in great windswept landscapes with
monumental structures against which hardpressed human beings tried to make
a living. The examples above are from his illustrations to the Illustrated
Guide to Stonehenge and Avebury produced in London in 1959.
