Tom Benrimo (1887-1958) His early work was destroyed in the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake and Fire. He moved to New York to establish a successful career in the Graphic Arts, and in Stage Design. Early privations in New York led to his contracting Tuberculosis, which plagued his health thereafter. In 1939 he moved to Taos and joined the artists' colony there with his wife Dottie, the first artist of a Surrealist tendancy to do so. His biographer Earl Strohe writes, “Ben is the greatest painter New Mexico ever had and that includes Madame O’Keefe, who’s vastly overrated. She did a few good paintings.” TAOS DAILY HORSE FLY |
