Bernard Perlin (born Richmond Va. 1918) came to New York in 1936 to study at the New York School of Design and later graphics at the Art Students League under Harry Sternberg . He painted Family Scene and other murals for the South Orange Post Office having won the commission and $2,000. He worked at the Office of War Graphics Division with Ben Shahn from whom he learnt techniques of Tempera painting. On a scholarship to Poland he undertook many projects in the period before the outbreak of war. He became active as a LIFE war artist, and as an adjunct to this, undertook many extraordinary commissions for FORTUNE. After the War he taught at the Brooklyn Museum Art School. For several years he abandoned art. At the time of writing, this engaging and prolific artist is 92 years old.Bless him.
