For this illustration on the left I have tried to evoke a sunsetting mood of oranges, yellows, pinks and black but highlighting the tusks in white.
On the right you can see for yourself how I have worked out a colour scheme, attempting a moonlight effect and highlighting the miller below in white.
Often I try to vary the dominant colours on different pages as we go through a sequence in a picture book to give contrast to the viewer, as well as adopting different ways of projecting the image, in this case an aerial view.
