suggestions forGRID GAMES WITH DICE

DATE.........9 APRIL 2024

Lana

that is very sweet of you although my advice is always non-transactional.

I had a thought. Let me set you a project to be developed over weeks rather than days, as if you were a part time MA student allowing you to tell me how your are coping.

The Theme , CHESS

A Chess board is a grid 8 x 8
as in David Bomberg's work In the Hold (tate Gallery)
https://www.tate.org.uk/art/artworks/bomberg-in-the-hold-t00913

Maybe start with a grid of 4 squares by 4 squares

prepare 8 separate vignettes in your usual style

e.g. 1.jpg 2.jpg I took one vignette and also
inverted it (Command +I )

Number each of them

Make an abstract pattern by filling each square of the grid(16 in all) from left to right, filling a row fromtop to bottom. with one of your abstractions, the choicedecided by a throw of the dice (two dice giving you 12 options) adapt the rules so they work for you.

Let’s see what happens. If it is creative
and you enjoy it, repeat the exercise and compare the grids. Maybe vary the vignettes using colour Maybe do a day making separate vignettes on 2 inch by 2 inch paper squares.
I get to keep one of the exercises posted to me.
