Roy Cross is the doyen of aircraft artists, know particularly for his imagery for Airfix packaging. He was born 1924, and studied at Camberwell. During the War he worked for Farey on their manuals. After the War he worked commercially for many clients, not least for The Aeroplane and Eagle Comic. His planes are masterpieces of stasis and observations while clouds contort and tumesce in dramatic flourishes that threaten to upstage man's technological superiority. |
