Helmuth Weissenborn (1898-1982) "Having studied under Walter Tiemann at the Academy for Graphic Art and Book Design, Leipzig, and obtaining his doctorate in 1925, he joined the staff there in 1928, becoming a professor." From the Independent obituary of his wife Lesley. He left for London in 1939. He was briefly interned in the Isle of Man and was active in several media, painting, drawing and printmaking. He also worked with the photographer Paul Henning modelling figures to be photographed in colour as book illustration. During the Second World War he became a member of the Auxiliary Fire Service and illicitly sketched the debris and destruction in London during the Blitz. He taught at Ravensbourne and published much of his own work in his own imprint, the Acorn Press.
