Rea Irvin (1881-1972) is a comedy genius with huge visual invention. His tailpieces and filler vignettes always delight. See the Cave Folk occupying the head of the page from left to right, with extended club and hair.In 1925 he left other sources of income to work almost exclusively for The New Yorker. On Ross's death in 1951 he fell out with the management there and returned to the general magazines. He lived his last years out in the Virgin Islands and died aged 90.
