Sullivant(1824-1926) is the Master of the Horizontal and was often used in this way to fill an uncomfortable space on the page by the discerning art director. His figures suffer from an excess of gravitional force that compresses them and keep them close to the ground. His work can also be found during this period in The Passing Show. The present seen through the eyes of the Past, and the Pre-Historic Past in particulalr is a good graphic wheeze and Sullivant contributed a large share to the impulse that emerges with the Flintstones. |
