As a corrective to discarding the packaging and losing the maker's identity, small picture cards were included in a series of products that encouraged further purchases or induced the children of the household to pressure their parents to buy more of a product than was strictly necessary. The Company was founded in 1840 by a German organic chemist who gave his name to the company. Corned Beef (Fray Bentos) and OXO were part of the corporate portfolio.
