The Life Antiquarian is one of timeless perfection; of pages uncut; of scarcity and suface perfection; of limitation in production, authenticity and investment. I have long preferred the object (book, print, ornament, jewellery etc) to reveal to me the way it has lived, giving me its story rather than its value.
I treasure these three albums for their qualities of being scattered, nursing repetitions and the Incomplete, inadvertent juxtapositions, coded messages and sudden reverses of gravity. That they were a present from Ed Maggs adds to the lustre. See what you think.
In Album One and elsewhere, you'll find the legendary George Chirgwin (1844-1922) a personal hero known on the Musical Hall stage as the 'White Eyed Kaffir'.
